With all the pressures we can find ourselves living through, especially in most recent times with increasing cost of living and a general strain on life it's not surprising we want to retreat and hide under a blanket waiting for a sunny day to shine through!

If you feel this way but want to grab life by the horns and start feeling good again you'll want to check out these 7 habits in my morning routine that literally changed my life and can help you change yours.

Hi, I'm Deborah Craig, Intuitive Life Mentor and Hypnotherapist and I'm here to lift others up mentally, spiritually and emotionally.  I help ambitious women to free themselves of overwhelm, self doubt, fear and confusion and start living a life they love - whether that's business, careers relationships or simply to get that zest for life back again!

I empower them to take back control of their life and become their best self by following my 7 step journey of personal transformation and growth resulting in more balance and confidence to reach their full potential.

7 daily habits that will change your life

1. Get up at the same time every day and avoid hitting snooze button 10 times.

I know it's not always possible to have an exact routine but the closer you get to one the better.  You will get more from your day and your life when you take control of your day from the moment you get up.

2. Drink water (green juice for me) as soon as you wake up.

If you can wait for at least 90 minutes after waking to have your coffee it will help you avoid the afternoon crash (check out Andrew Huberman and his Huberman Lab for more science based brain training).  Wake the brain up with water before adding a stimulant - try the water thing and see for yourself.  It works, honest!

3. Make your bed.

A tale as old as time tells you that setting up for the day gets you off to a good start.  What message does it send to your brain when you roll out of bed, leave a mess behind and fall into the day?  Start your day off well and you've a better chance of it going smooth.

4. Exercise.  No explanation needed here.

It's a simple fact and scientifically proven that exercise is not only good for our physical body but also for our mental health.  I aim for 30 minutes intensive workout 5 days per week wth a couple of rest days.  Find a routine that works for your and stick to it.

5. Practice gratitude.  Write it, speak it, think it.

You will naturally send the feel good chemicals to the brain (dopamine and serotonin) when you practise gratitude.  The brain can't be happy and sad at the same time so when you take even 5 minutes a day to express gratitude you will set yourself up for a more positive, happy one!

6. Meditate.  Guided or silent

If you hear yourself saying 'I don't have time to meditate' then you probably need it the most.  You don't need to spend an hour in silence to get the benefits.  Try out Boho Beautiful on YouTube for their 5 minute meditations.  The best way to move into the day - bliss!

7. Read something educational/self development.

To grow you must educate yourself in whatever it is you want to expand in.  Of course I read a lot of academic books/papers for my client work but I also read a lot of personal development which not only helps me show up as my best self but I can then share with my clients to  help them.  Here are a few my favourites in the the healthy habits area that you might like

**Let's caveat this whole routine.  I have no children (yet) and have more time to myself to be able to slot in 1 hour per day.  You might only be able to carve out 15 mins.  What could you do with your 15 minutes that will set you up for the day.  Make your day happen for you and not to you?
